Chapter 11: Apollo

Terms/Names/Tales to know:

Birth tale: how Leto wandered, looking for a place to give birth, how Hera kept Eileithyia captive on Mt. Olympos so Leto could not give birth, how Delos took her in, how he was fed with divine nectar and ambrosia and became immortal. 

Attributes:
lyre, curved bow (sometimes silver), gift of prophesy (articulation of Zeus' will)
reason, moderation, and calm on the one hand; on the other, quick to anger, violent, and unforgiving 

Epithets:
"Phoebus Apollo, the far-shooter with the unshorn hair"

Roles:
God of music, prophesy, medicine, known for such maxims as "Know yourself"
