Chapter 5 In-class Writing Assignment (after viewing selected scenes from Clash of the Titans)

Choose one topic to write on for fifteen minutes:

For each topic, I am looking for you to point out the similarities/differences in the presentation of the topic in book and film. You will be evaluated on how well you remember and understand what you read. You will also be evaluated on how well you can synthesize the details you recall and use them to support your view…is the film true to the classical tradition? Whether the answer is yes or no, be persuasive. Please be detailed. Vague responses will not be rewarded. My detector is on.

Anthropomorphism: how gods are similar to men (for both good and ill).

The Divine Hierarchy: the relationship between mortals and heroes and gods (all ways) and the relationship between Zeus and the other gods (both ways).

Greek Humanism: Fate or free will? Life as blessing or curse? Man’s limits or glorious possibilities?
