Math 142 will cover chapters 5-9, on logarithmic and exponential functions, differential equations, applications of integration, integration techniques, Taylor polynomials and Taylor Series.
Attendance in this class is required. Repeated absences may result in a forced withdrawal from the course. You are responsible for any material you miss due to absence. Please let me know ahead of time if you know that you will not be able to attend class.
The term grade will be based on the results of the examinations and the scores on homework quizzes.

There will be three in-class midterm exams and a cumulative final. The exams will be closed book and calculators will not be permitted.
Homework problems will be assigned after every lecture. You are expected to complete all problems assigned. The assigned problems will not be collected however. Instead, every Friday there will be a homework quiz during which you must copy problems from your homework to the quiz. You may also have to solve an additional problem similar to the homework problems. You may not use your textbook during the homework quizzes, but you may use your homework and notes. As with the exams, no calculators are allowed during the quizzes, however you are welcome to use calculators or a computer when you do the homework. There are no make-up quizzes due to absence. If you know that you will miss a quiz, please let me know in advance. Because there are no make-up quizzes, the lowest quiz grade will be dropped from your quiz average.
During Thursday classes, I will ask students to present problems from the homework. The dates when you will present will be assigned early in the semester. If you cannot present on your assigned date, let me know at least one week before so that we can arrange to swap presentation days with another student. To get full credit for each presentation, you just need to have tried the problem and be ready to present your solution. You do not need to have a correct solution in order to get full credit.
There will be a final group presentation project assigned during the last weeks of the semester. Each group will have two or three people and the presentations will be 10-15 minutes long. I will suggested several presentation topics, and if you wish, you can also suggest appropriate alternative topics as well.
