Below are some other interesting links:
-
- The Biology Project
- The Biology Project offers excellent short tutorials on several topics,
including Mendelian genetics, cell biology (mitosis, meiosis), human
biology, and molecular biology.
-
- MIT
Biology Hypertextbook
- The Hypertextbook contains chapters on many different aspects of biology.
Chapters relevant to our course include Mendelian
Genetics, the Central
Dogma (relationship between DNA and proteins), Prokaryote
Genetics, and Recombinant
DNA.
-
- Virtual
Fly Lab
- The Virtual Fly Lab is great! Use the fly lab for experiments to determine
the genetic basis of real traits in the fruit fly Drosophila
melanogaster. This is much like the work Mendel did. Perform different
crosses. Observe ratios in progeny. Figure out what genetic models fit the
data. Design other crosses to test your hypothesis. The thrill of scientific
discovery, but the results come back in seconds instead of years!
-
- A
Hypermedia Glossary of Genetic Terms
- A Hypermedia Glossary of Genetic Terms provides short definitions for many
genetic terms. Great if you just can't quite remember what RAPD stands for!
-
- Online
Mendelian Inheritance in Man
- Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man is an excellent source for rigorous
scientific information on human genetic attributes obeying Mendelian
inheritance. For instance, the database contains extensive information on cystic
fibrosis.
-
- GeneMap'98
- GeneMap'98 represents a state of the art compilation of genetic
information collected as part of the human genome project.
