Welcome to

Glen Bowman's Personal Web Page

This is a photograph that my brother-in-law took of me and my youngest son, Noah, when he was only 2 years old.  It is still one of my favorites.

I am married to Beth Poore-Bowman and our home is a half mile from the campus of Hampden-Sydney College, where I have served as the Director of Counseling Services since 1994.

Beth is a Nurse Practitioner who provides services in Lynchburg and Farmville with The Cardiovascular Group.  She has also provided health services at Longwood University, Southside Pediatrics, and as part of a 2003 medical mission trip to Honduras.

Beth and I have five children ... and have become "empty nesters", as our youngest left for college this past August.

Blake, our oldest, was a 2004 graduate of the College of William and Mary and worked for the A.C.L.U. for 2 years after graduation.  He lived with the challenges of cancer in 2006-2007 and was an inspiration to all of us who shared his struggle, until his death on December 2, 2007 at our home in the loving company of his family.  Our family was incredibly proud of Blake, particularly of the remarkable kindness and generosity he demonstrated as he allowed us to care for him during his illness in whatever way we could.
Mitchell (29) is a 2004 graduate of Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia.  Since graduation, he has worked at Triple Creek Ranch, his grandparents' cattle ranch in Virgilina, Virginia.
Hannah (22) is a 2011 graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine and is now pursuing an M.A.T. in English Education at Boston University.
Abigail (20) is a sophomore at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Noah (18) is a first-year student at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

I have attended Elizabethtown College (B.A., 1977), the University of Ghana (junior year abroad, 1975-76), the University of Oregon (M.S., 1980), and the State University of New York at Albany (Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, 1993), completing a predoctoral internship at Penn State University.  I have been licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia since 1995.

Pictures -

These are rather dated, but all recall good times with my family.

Some 1998 vacation pictures will be back on-line before long ....

Beth and I traveled with our 3 younger children for a month during the summer of 1998, visiting Yellowstone, the Pacific Northwest, and the Canadian Rockies.  Thanks to my brother-in-law, Al Hartmann, I have a couple pictures in digital format from the time we shared camping in Yellowstone that summer.

I enjoyed salmon fishing in Alaska with the men of the Poore family during the last week of August 1998.

July 2000 vacation pictures ....

Our summer trip in 2000 started with travel north through northern Michigan into Ontario.

We then traveled the Trans-Canadian highway across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta to Glacier National Park, where we spent a week.  The scenery there was beautiful and we enjoyed some time on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation nearby.

After visiting friends in southern Montana for a couple of days, we spent almost a week in Yellowstone National Park before returning east.

July 2001 - Whales along the western coast of Newfoundland ....

These pictures are from our July 2001 vacation trip to Newfoundland and Labrador.  One sunny afternoon, as we drove north along the western coast of Newfoundland, we looked toward Labrador and saw humpback whales.

Summer 2006 trip to Europe ....

These pictures are from our summer 2006 trip to Europe.  We enjoyed traveling for almost 3 weeks in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and France.
