WHY AN ADDITION TO COLLEGE CHURCH IS NEEDED
|
| |
|
|
College Church family members crowd into the old kitchen during a Second Sunday supper.

PROBLEMS
Our education space is crowded and inefficiently arranged;
Our two single toilet rest rooms are inadequate for major gatherings, and are not handicapped-accessible;
Our kitchen space does not allow easy movement for the group volunteers who are typically using it;
Our reception room is especially small and cramped;
Our storage space for out-of-season items and for items that we regularly use is very limited;
Emergency exit from either the sanctuary or the basement would be problematic - the exits do not conform to
present safety requirements;
Our basement is below grade and feels dark and closed in;
Our back yard parking is ill-defined and haphazard; and
Our rear entrance is not covered or protected for any drop-off passengers in bad weather.
THE LEILA & GRAVES THOMPSON EDUCATIONAL BUILDING INCLUDES
Brick exterior, hip roof, tall windows with green exterior shutters similar to the present ones;
An eclosed connector unit between the present building and the new one, containing an attractive narthex for visiting with one
another, and a coatroom adjacent to the entrance;
Two new totally-accessible rest rooms on each floor;
Four second floor classrooms directly accessible from beneath the balconies of the sanctuary;
Covered entry between the new rear parking lot and the commons area;
First-floor fellowship hall accomodating 150 people and large adjacent kitchen with pass-through window; with separate back
door for trash and maintenance exits;
Inside stairs to second-floor classrooms;
New rear parking lot with numerous handicapped-access spaces, and relocated, fenced children's playground.
"The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps."
Proverbs 16:9
