On Super Bowl Sunday, young people from 15,000 congregations participate in the Souper Bowl by asking
parishioners to drop $1 (or more) and a can of soup in a box or a soup pot to help hungry and hurting people in their communities.
This program was begun by a Presbyterian minister, Rev. Brad Smith, from Columbia, SC in 1990.
The College Church Youth Class joins with young people all over the country each year to participate in this program.
Super Bowl Sunday 2006 was February 5. The elementary class helped their teacher, Ms. Bidwell, present a "Minute for Mission" at
church on January 29, and also decorated boxes to hold the soup donations. They collected $130 and 131 cans of food.
On Super Bowl Sunday 2005, donations added up to $66 in cash and over 100 cans of soup.
In 2003, Daniell, Lowell Charles, Karin, Karl,
Mary Beth, Katie, and Meredith collected 78 cans of soup and vegetables and $108.00 which wento to
support F.A.C.E.S., our local food pantry. This group also presented an educational, and often hilarious, skit at the
Second Sunday Supper on January 19 to raise awareness of
their project. Patsy Pelland, Patty Townsend, and their teacher Elna Ann Mayo provided the soup kettles
for receiving the contributions.
