A New Start

After a brief hiatus, the Hampden-Sydney College Habitat for Humanity campus chapter (H-SC HHF) is again an active chapter and looking to firmly establish itself as one of the leading organizations on campus. Fall semester 2005 welcomed Jason Hall as the new president of H-SC HFH. Volunteers were called for and a strong showing was made at the first meeting. The first project was to help the local Farmville affiliate with a build (Monroe House). Students from H-SC as well as from Longwood University worked side by side with contractors, volunteers from the community, and the recipient family. Aside from several severe cases of poison ivy incurred while clearing the lot, this project was a huge success. We can only hope that support continues to grow within the college.

2007 brings a new project for the HSC Habitat chapter. The next Habitat house will be built for Pamela Grey and her three children. This house will be located several blocks from last year's house. The lot on Bridge St. has been cleaned of trash and is scheduled to be cleared of trees on February 3rd.

Be on the lookout for Krispy Kreme Doughnut sales and a bake sale on campus at the H-SC coffee shop/post office.
