Along the Doyles River Trail and the Browns Gap Road

Doyles River flows out of a tree-covered canyon. High cliffs to the south tower hundreds of feet over our heads. Looking down into the gorge, we see the hikers enjoying the scenery around the Lower Falls.
The canyon widens out as we reach the Upper Falls. Hikers explore the amphitheater that has been created by the falls. The trail will curve around and pass near the top of the falls.

As we walk along the nearly level Browns Gap Road towards the ridge, the colors become more muted. Just up the hill we find the grave of William Howard, CSA. Soon we will be on the Appalachian Trail again and on our way back to the car. Then on to Charlottesville for some ice cream!
