Selecting a Simple Random Sample

Select a Single Member

1. Let N be the size of the population.
2. Press MATH. The MATH menu titles appear.
3. Select the PRB menu title.
4. Press ENTER. The PRB menu appears.
5. Select randInt, item #5. The expression randInt( appears in the display.
6. Enter 1.
7. Press comma.
8. Enter the value of N.
9. Press ).
10. Press ENTER. A random integer from 1 to N appears in the display.

Select a Sample of size n, with Replacement

1. Follow the instructions to select a single member to get the first member.
2. Press ENTER repeatedly. Each time, a new random integer appears.
3. After pressing ENTER n times, you have a sample of n members (possibly with repetitions).

Select a Sample of size n, without Replacement

1. Follow the instructions to select a sample, with replacement, to get a collection of n integers.
2. For each repeated value, reject it and press ENTER again.
3. Once you have n distinct numbers, you have your sample.
