Before the break, we introduced the t-distribution for hypothesis testing. This week we'll see how to use the t-distribution to make confidence intervals. We'll also review the material from before the break for Midterm 2 on Friday. Our goal for the remainder of the semester is to understand when and how to use all eight of the common statistical inference formulas. This week, we'll focus on the first two.
Goal. To introduce the t-distribution confidence interval formula: \[\bar{x} \pm t^* \frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}\] and also the t-Distribution table.
Step 1. Read these notes: One sample t-distribution confidence intervals
Step 2. Print a copy of this table if you can: T-distribution table
Step 3. Try this workshop: Quarters mint year
Step 4. Once you've tried every question on the workshop, take a look at my solutions: YouTube video.
Here is an optional Kahn Academy video explaining t-distribution confidence intervals.
Goal. To review probability and hypothesis testing for the midterm on Friday.
Step 1. Review these notes: One sample t-distribution hypothesis tests
Step 2. Try this: Midterm 2 practice exam
I'll try to post solutions to the practice exam on Thursday.
I also posted suggested review problems for Midterm 2 before the break, but I wanted to give people more practice, especially if you don't have your textbook, so that's why I've posted a whole practice exam.
Goal. Review practice midterm exam and answer any questions before the real midterm tomorrow.
Step 1. Here are solutions to the practice midterm: Practice midterm 2 solutions
Step 2. After you've checked your solutions, let me know if you have any questions!
I sent out a link to take Midterm 2 by e-mail this morning. Please let me know if you didn't get it.
