Scatter Diagram

Enter the data

1. Enter the x values into list L1.
2. Enter the y values into list L2.

Find the min and the max of x and y

1. Press STAT.
2. Use the arrow key to select the CALC menu title.
3. Select item #2, 2-Var Stats.
4. Press ENTER. The phrase 2-Var Stats appears in the window.
5. Press 2nd L1.
6. Press the comma key.
7. Press 2nd L2.
8. Press ENTER. A list of statistics appears.
9. Use the arrow key to scroll down to find the minimum and maximum of x (minX and maxX) and the minimum and maximum of y (minY and maxY). Record them.

Set up the Stat Plot

1. Press 2nd STAT PLOT (in the upper left corner). The STAT PLOTS menu appears.
2. Use the arrow key to select one of the plots, say Plot1.
3. Press ENTER.
4. Use the left/right arrow keys to select On.
5. Press ENTER. This turns Plot1 on. (The other plots should be turned off.)
6. Press the down arrow once. This allows you to select the type of plot.
7. Use the left/right arrows to select the scatter diagram type, the first one. (The icon looks like a little scatter diagram.)
8. Press ENTER.
9. Press the down arrow once. This allows you to select the list containing the x values.
10. Press 2nd L1.
11. Press the down arrow again. This allows you to select the list containing the y values.
12. Press 2nd L2.

Set up the Window

1. Press WINDOW (on the top row of buttons).
2. Next to Xmin, enter a value that is as least as small as the minimum x.
3. Press the down arrow once.
4. Next to Xmax, enter a value that is as least as large as the maximum x.
5. Press the down arrow.
6. Next to Ymin, enter a value that is as least as small as the minimum y.
7. Press the down arrow once.
8. Next to Ymax, enter a value that is as least as large as the maximum y.

Draw the Scatter Diagram

1. Press GRAPH (in the upper right corner). The scatter diagram appears.
