Computing the Mean and the Median

• Enter the data into list L1, or whatever list you like.

Method 1 (Mean and Median)

1. Press STAT. The Stat menu bar appears. The EDIT menu title is highlighted.
2. Use the arrow keys to select the CALC menu title. The Calc menu appears.
3. Select item #1, 1-Var Stats. The phrase 1-Var Stats appears in the window.
4. Press 2nd L1.
5. Press ENTER. A list of statistics appears. The first one is the mean.
6. Use the arrow keys to scroll down the list. The median is labeled Med.

Method 2 (Mean)

1. Press 2nd LIST. The List menu bar appears. The NAMES menu title is highlighted.
2. Use the arrow keys to select the MATH menu title. The Math menu appears.
3. Use the arrow keys to select mean. Or press 3 and skip the next step.
4. Press ENTER. Now mean( appears in the display.
5. Enter the name of the column, L1.
6. Press ) (close parenthesis).
7. Press ENTER. The mean appears in the display.

Method 3 (Mean)

1. Press 2nd LIST. The List menu bar appears. The NAMES menu title is highlighted.
2. Use the arrow keys to select the MATH menu title. The Math menu appears.
3. Use the arrow keys to select sum. Or press 5 and skip the next step.
4. Press ENTER. Now sum( appears in the display.
5. Enter the name of the list, L1.
6. Press ) (close parenthesis).
7. Press ÷ (divide). A slash / appears.
8. Enter the sample size.
9. Press ENTER. The mean appears in the display.
