Attendance in this class is required. Repeated absences may result in a forced withdrawal from the course. You are responsible for any material you miss due to absence. Please let me know ahead of time if you know that you will not be able to attend class.
The term grade will be based on the results of the examinations and performance on homework presentations and assigned labs.
Component | Proportion |
---|---|
Participation | 10% |
Quizzes | 15% |
Midterms | 50% |
Final Exam | 25% |
Homework problems will be assigned after every class. You are expected to complete all problems assigned. Each class I will ask some students to present their solutions on the board so we can discuss them. Your participation during these presentations will determine your class participation grade. You will not be graded on the accuracy of your solutions, but you will be graded on whether you attempted to solve the problem and were prepared to present.
Every week there will be a short quiz. The quiz will be based on the homework problems assigned in class. You are allowed to use your homework and class notes during the quiz, but you cannot use a calculator or other electronic device. There are no make up quizzes, but your lowest quiz grade will be dropped from your quiz average. If you know that you will be absent on a day when there is a quiz, let me know in advance.
There will be four in-class midterm exams and a cumulative final. The exams will be closed book and calculators will not be permitted.
In compliance with the Hampden-Sydney College policy and equal access laws, I am available to discuss appropriate academic accommodations that may be recommended for students with disabilities. Requests for academic accommodations are to be made at the beginning of the semester (except for unusual circumstances) so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Students are required to contact the Office of Academic Success in order to verify their eligibility for appropriate accommodations. How does this look?
